96% Consent Completion in a Fully Decentralized Pregnancy Study
Curebase eClinical Platform · Decentralized Clinical Trial Technology
Enrolling pregnant participants in a clinical study is uniquely challenging. Schedules are unpredictable, comfort with medical processes varies widely, and any friction in the experience can lead to drop-off at a critical moment. For one women's health company running a large-scale pregnancy prognosis study, completion rates like these are not a coincidence. They are the result of building the study around the participant from day one.
The Challenge
A sensitive population. High data requirements. No room for drop-off. Pregnancy studies demand a lot from participants: blood draws, ongoing data collection, medical record access. For a study aiming to enroll thousands of participants, every point of friction is a potential dropout. The sponsor needed a decentralized model that could scale fast while keeping participants engaged and completing every step of the protocol.
The Approach
Decentralized from the start, built around the participant. Rather than anchoring the study to clinical sites, the sponsor built the entire participant journey on Curebase's decentralized eClinical platform. Outreach campaigns brought eligible participants in, and a streamlined digital consent flow made it easy to say yes and follow through. Participants completed eConsent on their own devices, on their own schedule, without needing to show up anywhere first.
Medical records were pulled directly from participants' own OBGYNs, removing the burden of self-reporting and improving data quality at the same time. Blood draws were coordinated through a mobile collection model, meeting participants where they were rather than asking them to travel to a site.
The Results
Completion rates that speak for themselves. 96% of participants who entered the consent flow completed it. 85% completed their blood draw. At 500+ enrollments per month and 2,500+ participants total, those numbers represent thousands of completed data points that a site-based model would have struggled to collect.
The decentralized approach did not just make enrollment easier. It made the entire study more reliable, with higher-quality data, fewer gaps, and a participant experience that people were actually willing to see through to the end.
